Pseudoephedrine Purchase Tracking System

Our answer to a serious question.

Quote from News from DEA, Congressional Testimony, 02/06/04: "The small toxic labs I described generate significant quantities of hazardous waste during each production cycle. Small, rural communities within Indiana ultimately must pay the price of the fiscal, environmental, health, and safety hazards associated with criminal entrepreneurs."

Pseudoephedrine Purchase Tracking is a legal requirement for stores in Indiana.

Currently a paper based system is used to track the sales of the methamphetamine precursor Pseudoephedrine. This is not an ideal way to search for precursors since it requires a manual and time consuming search and, as a preventative measure, a paper system is virtually useless. It is not feasible for law enforcement or store owners to track back through paper files to check the purchasing history of a particular individual. Even if the time and inclination were there to do such a search, it could only cover that one store.

What can we do about it?

Quote from Statement on Pseudoephedrine Legislation by Craig L. Fuller, President and CEO, NACDS July 26, 2005: "Without a national electronic tracking system, criminals will still be able to purchase restricted products -- without being detected -- by going to multiple pharmacies or retailers. One location will not know what has already been purchased at another store, much less in another town...."

Our tracking system resolves the problems of paper searches and highly localized information; offering both store owners and law enforcement a secure, fast, accurate and effective means of researching precursor sales in real-time and across a much wider base.
